Offers a brilliant synopsis of two oil spills: then, and now. The “Then” is the Ixtoc blow-out of 1979, which released 30,000 barrels per day, for a total of some three million, into the Gulf. The “Now” of course, is the Deepwater Horizon, which has spilled, perhaps 4.5 million barrels into the Gulf.
